What Is Therapeutic Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, consisting primarily of manual (hands-on) techniques such as applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, and moving muscles and body tissues.

Massage Therapy is delivered to lengthen muscles, improve the flow of blood, reduce muscular tension, to affect the nervous system and to enhance tissue healing.

What Is Thai Massage Therapy?

This is an ancient healing practice that originated in India. Many people describe it as a mix between yoga and massage. It uses stretching and slow, rhythmic compression along the body’s energy lines,  this lengthens muscles and increases flexibility. The calming effect of Thai Massage Therapy can bring your body into a trance type experience.

Massage Therapy FAQs

1. How long is my treatment?

Your one-hour session includes a pre-massage consultation with Tara as well as dressing time. You can expect approximately 50 minutes of hands-on treatment.

2. Will my healthcare plan cover the cost of my Massage Therapy treatments?

Most healthcare plans cover Massage Therapy when treatments are performed by a Registered Massage Therapist. You will be provided with a receipt to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.

3. Can I get a massage if I am already in pain?

With the appropriate pressure, massage can have a direct effect on the circulatory system, which helps reduce inflammation and helps relieve pain. You are encouraged to communicate with Tarr about your pain/comfort level at any time during your massage.

4. What should I expect and what do I wear?

Tara will take you to the treatment room and discuss your health history form and massage preferences.

Tara will then leave the room to allow you to disrobe. You can receive an effective, therapeutic massage regardless of what clothing (if any) you choose to remove. Your comfort and ability to relax is a top priority. Some people like to take off all their clothing, while others leave on their undergarments or other articles of clothing. It’s really up to you. If you choose to be fully clothed, please wear loose-fitting clothing (like sweatpants and a t-shirt) so that your body will not be restricted during your treatment. Cover yourself with the linens provided and wait for a knock on the door.

Thai Massage Therapy FAQs

1. How long is my treatment?

Your treatment session includes a pre-massage consultation with Tara. A full Thai massage session may last 90 minutes to 2 hours and includes rhythmic pressing and stretching of the entire body. This may include fingers, toes, walking on the recipient’s back, and moving the recipient’s body into many different positions.

2. What is the difference between Thai Massage and Therapeutic Massage?

WhereasTheraputic Massages take place atop a massage table, Thai massages take place upon a floor mat and fully clothed … During a Thai massage, the therapist moves all around and above the client to access a wider range of angles over each part of the body, even in cases when the client is much larger than the therapist.

3. How soon will I see results?

Tangible results are usually seen early in treatment. Some people experience incredible pain relief and improved quality of life after only one treatment, but commonly it is reported that after three or four treatments, clients are enjoying decreased physical pain and restriction, substantial reductions in stress symptoms and overall improved function. Many factors are at play when determining how quickly you will see results – including the severity of your injury or condition, your overall health upon beginning treatment, unforeseen life events that may come along to either aid, detract or change your course once we begin treatment and compliance with the self-care programs that are suggested to you along the way.

4. What should I expect and what do I wear?

Tara will take you to the treatment rooms and discuss your health history form and massage preferences.

You will be fully clothed, please wear loose fitting clothing (like sweatpants/yoga pants and a t-shirt) so that your body will not be restricted during your treatment.
